Last year (and after being a guest on several video podcasts myself), I decided I wanted to start a video podcast of my own. I’d already done a regular podcast (audio only) for a little while, but a face-to-face conversation seemed so much better. I wanted a podcast, I decided, to celebrate creativity in all its forms. I struggled with a name for it but finally settled on “I’d Like My Crayons Back.”
The quote above was what decided the matter for me. My search for title inspiration brought me to the quote and, lest anyone wonder at the podcast’s name, the quote is shown at the start of each episode before the opening sequence, and again at the end. It is worth remembering. I must confess I have not read Hugh MacLeod’s book, but the quote grabbed me in a visceral fashion.
I will be making blog posts with the links to the various episodes as they arise (and also, to those already completed), in case you have any interest in enjoying their content. The interviewees thus far have been a mastering engineer, a “professional hobbyist”, a wool spinner, a best-selling author, with many more to come. Because, you see, I really do want to celebrate creativity in all its forms. Whether you’re a gardener, an author, a tailor, a baker, a painter, a musician, a woodworker, quilter, knitter, event planner, graphic designer, photographer, etc., etc., etc., you ARE a creator. You are involved in the creative process that is, essentially, life and living it.
I am looking for new guests for the upcoming year. I do not pay people for these interviews (heads up as to that), but having others hear about you and your creating may be beneficial, to them and to you. The interviews are recorded, not live. As of now, I find that much easier, both on me and the person I am interviewing. The podcasts have been a lot of fun.
