Humanity

We are all one race: Human.

This is a truth. Whether creationist or evolutionist, we all understand we started somewhere, grew into what we are today. I don’t purport to know or understand every religion in the world, but I believe most of them have their theory of creation. We started. We are.

What we call race in this world is only a way to delineate, ofttimes used to demean. We are not, of course, all the same people. We are individuals, as diverse as the universe (except when someone starts putting up lookalike photos on Facebook of “ordinary” folk and “famous”). But we all share this earth with the same humble beginnings. Any attempt to subvert another people, another culture, gender, rights, beliefs, what-have-you, is always perpetrated by the bullies in this world. (Bullies, in case you don’t know by now, are really only cowards with a big mouth, a temper, an inclination to disregard the rights of others, and a desperate need to make themselves feel better by making others feel worse.)

We have come to a bad place in this country, and in this world (the only one we have, if I may remind us all). It is too simplistic for me to believe remembering we are but one race inhabiting the earth would make a difference. My wish for people to look around at their neighbors and realize we all deserve the same chance to be happy without taking happiness from others, is like spitting in the wind. We may as well build a ladder to the moon. (Wasn’t that a plan thrown around at one point? I’m thinking common sense dictates not all Plans and Projects should be brought to fruition.)

People are selfish. Self-serving. Belligerent. Easily fooled. But they are also intelligent, kind, compassionate, generous, and loving. These are acuity and personality traits, however, and not the very basic building block which makes us all one, despite the many, many millennia in which we have evolved to develop physical characteristics that make us stand out to each other as “different.” We are not, at our absolute core, different. We are the human race.

This is a truth that cannot be unmade, no matter how many books are banned, how past events are hushed up, how many people come at us screaming and yelling their own version of life as they want us all to live it.

We are all human. No more, no less.
